May 2025 is bringing a Salary Threshold update for the Blue Cards

If you are working in the Czech Republic on a Blue Card, or planning to, here is what you need to know. Starting on May 1, 2025, the Czech Statistical Office published a new average gross salary of 553 980 CZK annually (46 165 CZK per month). As a result, the minimum salary threshold for Blue Card applicants has also been adjusted. The new required minimum gross monthly income has risen from 65 012 CZK to 69 248 CZK, which corresponds to 1.5 times the national average gross monthly wage.

International professionals who wish to obtain the Blue Card, or already hold one and plan to extend it between May 1, 2025 and April, 30 2026, must ensure that their monthly salary meets the new minimum of 69 248 CZK. Failure to meet this threshold may lead to a rejected application or an unsuccessful extension.

This is a good time for employers hiring international talent on a Blue Card to review current salary levels. If you already hold a Blue Card and know that you will need to extend it during the specified period, but your salary does not meet the new threshold, we recommend discussing this with your employer in advance, to ensure you are prepared when the time for renewal comes.

If you are new to the Blue Card process, these are the requirements to keep in mind:·      

1. The Blue Card is intended for highly qualified individuals and requires proof of a university degree or equivalent qualification.

2. Your gross monthly salary must be at least 1.5 times the average wage in the Czech Republic (now 69 248 CZK).

3. You will need to provide a full time Employment contract, proof of accommodation in the Czech Republic, university diploma, the application form and two passport-sized photos

4. The job position must be posted by your future employer in the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs database as a role designated for Blue Card holders
