In case of emergency

Hopefully you won´t need this tip but it is for sure good to be prepared. Emergency situations can get very stressful you if find yourself in one or even when you just try to help someone else.

Here are the most important phone numbers, we recommend saving these to your contact list.

112 - EU Emergency number: Operators speak English and will connect you to the service they will find most suitable for your needs. This is a safe option when you are not sure if to call the police of ambulance and when you can´t speak Czech

155 – Medical Emergency „Záchranka“: Call for yourself or others if seriously injured or ill. For non-urgent care you can visit „pohotovost“ a clinic with various departments or just call your practitioner. You can also get some medical advice in pharmacies – „lékárna“.

158 – Police: Call if you feel unsafe, witness a crime or in a case of a car accident. If you feel unsafe in a public space don´t, be shy to ask someone for help or ask someone to call the police for you.

150 – Fire Fighters: Fire are the obvious one, but you can call this number for technical rescues such as floods or accidents as well.

Documents: Make sure you carry a valid ID and a health insurance card. You will need it when dealing with any of the authorities mentioned.

Dealing with an emergency:

-       Try to stay calm and speak clearly (emergency responders are trained to handle basic English)

-       Be respectful to all the workers. Emergency situations can be very stressful but being respectful and polite when dealing with someone who is there to help you in a good way how to show appreciation to the workers.

-       Don´t be afraid to ask for help. Locals may seem reserved at first but if you need help don´t be afraid to ask for it. It´s best to approach someone directly rather than just shout help.
