Registration certificate for EU/EEA national
What and who is it for? A Registration Certificate is an official document issued to citizens of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, and also to certain citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland who plan to stay in the Czech Republic for more than three months. While EU citizens enjoy the freedom to enter and reside in the Czech Republic without limitations, obtaining the Registration Certificate is highly recommended and useful.
Why do I need it? It provides added benefits during your stay. It serves as proof of residence, simplifying bureaucratic processes (e.g. when opening a bank account, registering your car and arranging for a parking permit, or dealing with Czech authorities). It grants you the right to vote in municipal and European Parliament elections. You may also need it when applying for a visa to travel abroad if you wish to avoid returning to your home country to complete the visa process. The Ministry of the Interior will also issue a personal identity number for you (unless you are Slovak citizen born before 1993), which may be required for some transactions such as purchasing a car.
How long is the Temporary Residence Permit valid? It is valid for 10 years (for EU citizens) and 5 years (for UK citizens who were legally residing in Czechia by 31.12.2020).
